Also, windows 8 was done mainly for tablets, all-in-one PCs and touch screens - no matter what anyone says. In fact Microsoft even advertised it as such before win8 was released.

It appears that windows 8 does not free the memory I was running Battlefield 3 when the system started to lag and ultimately, BF3 crashed! But if I add up the whole running apps, I barely see 3GB used I guess the system is using an extra GB so where are my other 10GB? Any idea how to fix it or is it one of the many bugs we are used to that now from Microsoft that was released with Windows 8??

I see two "facts" here. Resources monitor in Windows 8 is showing high memory use total memory available. Battlefield 3 is crashing. What I do not see is any evidence that the one fact is related to the other. Perhaps it is; however, you present no reason except that both events seem coincident in time.

Turning to the memory usage: There has been a change in memory management as between Windows 7 and 8. Systems with larger installed memory are becoming more prevalent thus the system was recalibrated so that the increased amount of memory would be usefully employed. There seems to be little point in paying the price for more memory just to have it sit unused. Possible, I suppose. However, I suspect the BF 8 problem has other causes.

I have vanishingly little knowledge or experience with game software, so best I leave help in that area to others. I urge you not to become fixated on the problem as being a memory issue. This does not make sense unless something is not working right. Anyway, even In case 2, the system should detect and free the memory. I guess there are some updates to come to improve its efficiency and Microsoft should have a look into because it will soon face the issue. In case 1, i hope the developers of the applications firefox, chrome, battlefield 3, etc Then don't forget windows 8 is supposed to work on tablets and phones I think Microsoft did everything to shrink the memory usage of its new system to make it work on such devices.

I want to pitch in my experience. I was just playing Metro on BF3 and the game suddenly halted. Totaling up all of my applications I am only using Here are my system specs:. What I know I didn't do was check for any updated drivers from ASUS for my motherboard and relied only on what was supplied with Windows 8, so I will check that. I think this is a problem with BF3 more than with W8, but just wanted to say that I have also had this problem.

Thanks for the update. I still haven't experienced the level of memory usage that I did when my system hung, but there are still some problems present and maybe with other applications as well. Nevertheless, I like Win8 and BF3, and since it only takes me about 15 seconds to reboot I'll just do that until it's updated!
